Agile + Usability : Find Your Way Out
First, Agile
Agile is a rapid software development methodology.
I would summarized it this way :
Determining smalls tasks or goals to be reached in a short amount of time, each goals representing one step toward the final release version.
Then, what about usability in an Agile environment ?
It might sometimes be difficult to work on usability in an everchanging environment.
Here are some tips to keep in mind :
- Do early work: site visits, background research, competitor studies
- Run usability studies on pre-alpha code
- Build a parallel user interface for testing
- Use an effecient technique to communicate usability matters
And the most important one :
Keep the focus on the big picture across multiple releases.

Just after posting I found this :
“While Agile development principles and best practices such as continuous user feedback and iterative development are familiar to UXD professionals, the focus on efficiency and time-boxed iterations can present a challenge.”
